One month into Mission find a Cure, and I am so pleased to say that both Malaika and I completed our challenges. My challenge was to run/walk 542000 steps, each step representing a child in the world living with type one diabetes, Malaika's challenge was to walk 271000 steps, which is half of my challenge. Team Mightier than Type One monthly stats Total Miles - 411.32 Total KM - 658.12 Total steps - 889341 Total glucose tablets eaten to stabilise blood sugar - 42 (mostly me!) Thank you to everyone for your overwhelming support, with post likes, shares, comments, messages of support, donations, sponsorship and taking part. This is shaping up to be an incredible year, February's challenges announced in the morning! To take part in a challenge, all you have to be able to do is 1km. http://ift.tt/2gInRkB or to donate, please visit http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM

Malaika photographed mid hypo (low blood sugar) - I didn't know she was hypo at the time, I just thought she was tired. I haven't ever seen her like this other than in my panic state when she is low, but the empty gaze terrifies me. She looks lost. Thankfully after a bag of haribo she was back to normal....so funny to say that some jelly babies saved my daughters life, but it's true.

Day 28 I hit 300 miles in January yesterday, I am taking it as an active rest day, I took Malaika and Amelie to see Moana at the cinema yesterday and had some much needed together time. Today is another day and just because the January challenge is over, doesn't mean I can sit and do nothing. #10000kmIn2017 total km 488.93/10000 #MissionFindACure January steps 562516/542000 http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM #MilesForMalaika

Day 27 So so so SO close!!! 1.26 miles away from 300 miles in 2017...but my fitbit battery died, and I haven't got the life in me to wait for it to charge! Tomorrow is another day for this goal, but today was the day that I finished my steps for the January challenge. I set myself the goal of walking 542000 steps in January to represent the 542000 children in the world living with type one diabetes. January 27 - goal completed But I won't stop, because every day more and more children and adults are diagnosed, I won't stop until there's a cure. #10000kmIn2017 total km 475.89/10000 #MissionFindACure January steps 549764/542000 http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM #MilesForMalaika

Thursday 26 January 2017

I seem to have miscounted my steps! According to my month (I didn't wear my fitbit until 1 January so even though it's 2 days out, it's still accurate) I am 17000 steps from my goal! That means I can smash my goal and help Malaika smash hers! We will finish so strong this month! I may even get a full rest day before starting February!! Every step I take this month represents one of the 542000 children living with Type One Diabetes in the world today. http://ift.tt/2gInRkB Why not join me?

Day 26 Early night tonight. We have Malaika's annual review tomorrow and then the 5 day birthday celebrations commence! The Dr said I was OK to walk on my foot as long as it wasn't painful, so I spent the last couple of hours getting some miles. I am currently on 285.04 miles for the month of January, just under 15 til I hit 300, so that is my goal for tomorrow! 60000 steps to go until I hit my goal, Malaika is a little behind with her goal, so I think I will help her with her challenge as part of #TeamMightierThanTypeOne Hope everyone is wrapped up warm tonight! #10000kmIn2017 total km 454.24/10000 #MissionFindACure January steps 481150/542000 http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM #MilesForMalaika

A lot of people think that Type one and type two are the same. Type 2 is where your pancreas is functioning normally, but your body is unable to use the insulin. Type 1 is where your body stops producing insulin. Type 1 is an autoimmune disorder, and was not caused by lifestyle choices. Type 2 in most instances is related to lifestyle. The majority of children with diabetes have type 1.

Am off to the hospital today, am having blood tests and seeing my consultant about my foot swelling. It's swollen again, but the good thing is its painful....is that a good thing? Am not sure, but it means that there is something to focus the examination on, and also I know to stop if it the pain starts. No running for a few days, but I will strap it and continue to walk unless advised otherwise. I only need to do 14000 steps a day for the remaining days of the month to meet my goal, am glad I put the extra miles in at the beginning of the month! Day 21 #10000kmIn2017 total km 371.65/10000 #MissionFindACure January steps 385585/542000 I havent been posting as often as I would like, and the reason is that I am exhausted, according to my fitbit I have been averaging 4 hours of sleep a night for the past 10 days For no reason I can work out, Malaika is having random low blood sugar, there is no reason for her sugar to go dangerously low, but every now and again, it does. She also has no symptoms so can't tell me if she feels it happening, meaning i am having to test her sugar with a fingerprick test every couple of hours day and night. She just got funding for a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) which is a small sensor attached to her body 24/7 via a needle. It will constantly keep me updated of her blood sugar and will alarm if she goes high or low, which will make a massive difference to my life. The difference it will make to her life, other than allowing me to keep her safe, is another needle attaching a piece of machinery to her little scarred body to keep her alive. It's a small price to pay for me, but for her it will bring pain, fear and anxiety. This is why I am doing what I'm doing, I don't want to put needles in my daughter multiple times a day, I don't want a common cold to have the ability to kill her, I don't want to sleep through my alarm at night and miss a low blood sugar and lose her. Please help me. http://ift.tt/2gInRkB http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM #MilesForMalaika

I know I know, I said less screenshots, but I posted 2 videos over the last 2 days! I didn't post yesterday as I was absolutely exhausted. Today, I didn't do as much as planned as we had a death in the family that put all my plans to one side. But I ran 2 miles to clear my head and thought of my Uncle as I ran. I have also allowed myself to commit to the idea of a marathon, so tomorrow, I start to research. Love you Uncle Dai ♡ Yesterday and today's totals. #10000kmIn2017 total km 326.96/10000 #MissionFindACure January steps 334117/542000 http://ift.tt/2iyeDJM #MilesForMalaika

How did I misjudge this so badly?? Yes I am only 1 mile behind, but I set my heart on 200 miles today. I'm going to have a cuppa and then slowly walk the last mile on the treadmill ♡
